Steady Store was born out of a vision to get more cool stuff onto the walls of everyday homes.
Steady Store was founded by us - traditional sign painter & visual artist Lance Corlett, & Kat, his partner in life & the one behind the scenes.
Steady Store is a Sydney-based creative collaboration that has been a long time coming - discussed over the dinner table many times.
Lance’s work has been exhibited at galleries such as Saint Cloche, & his hand-painted signage has been commissioned by brands such as Aesop, Ralph Lauren & R.M. Williams.
We created Steady Store as a platform to give these artworks a permanent home beyond exhibitions & studio walls.
Lance’s artworks are born from over 15 years in traditional sign painting, lettering & gilding. The pieces use historic techniques once popular amongst Australian sign painters from over a century ago, but that are now rarely practised.
Steady Store affords us the opportunity to not only preserve & celebrate these classic Australian techniques, but also to bring these artworks into everyday homes.
Themes of architecture, fading urban landmarks & moments of overlooked beauty are seen throughout the collections. Buildings & quiet urban corners become the subject matter - scenes often passed every day but rarely noticed.
Lance's artworks transform everyday architectural details into something intimate & reflective. The result are pieces that feel both nostalgic & refreshingly modern.
Lance is Japan-born, NZ-raised & now Australian based. We live & work in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. Eagle eye viewers will spot quiet landmarks from Sydney & eastern Australian as focal points across the collection of artworks.
